Analysis: JAY-Z Magna Carter Holy Grail | A new breed of album

Initial thoughts JAY-Z’s new classic

Where Watch The Throne was just flat out brazen in the way it exuded amazing amounts of Swag and daring MCHG feels like a return to the format Jay laid out in the Blueprint (no pun intended). Watch the Throne was amazing, it was for lack of a better word an EVENT, something that demanded your attention as it laid waste to everything around it. Kanye was such an integral part obviously to Watch the Throne there was no way it could be anything but massive and overwhelming. MCHG is different less showy fireworks and flat out explosions, more artistic and subtle the very things that have made HOV into the admirable prototype for the aspiring Hip Hop entrepreneur.

For all those guys talking negatively about JAY for writing about rich guy things, I can only say get a clue. JAY- Z, I am sad/ happy to say it, has out grown his core demographic, his music reflects that and that’s a good thing. The man has been a millionaire for a few years now and his young family has recently entered the billionaires club. If he was still rapping about the same things at this point in his life he’d be selling a lie. Magna Carter Holy Grail is Decadent, it’s supposed to be; if you want completely relatable go listen to the other 99.5% of rappers out there. He is a middle aged married billionaire with an empire to run he probably doesn’t have much in common with you, instead of taking this piece of work the wrong way how about we use this as an opportunity to learn about things we wouldn’t usually hear about, grow and learn a little from his success. Instead of finding this amazing piece of work un relatable look at it as inspirational. JAY talks of the finer things with his typical spot on delivery, he has climbed to an amazing height, he takes a moment to take it all in and decides to give us a fraction of what its like existing in the new stratosphere he has found himself in.

MCHG as a work separates JAY from Hip Hop’s general population drawing a definite line between the rest and him. On the track Tom Ford JAY states he doesn’t pop Molly’s he wears Tom Ford, the man is more concerned about his suit collection (stocked with suits by the Italian based American fashion designer) than even thinking about the designer drug of the moment which the average rapper has boasted about over the last year.

MCHG is almost a completely new type of album soley because of the unique perspective of its creator, that paired with his Samsung download deal (which I will talk about in a later analysis) giving JAY platinum status before the actual release date has made this work the most notable and groundbreaking in recent history .
